1. Scope of Work

This method statement covers the safe and efficient execution of:

  • Plumbing services (installation, repair, maintenance)
  • Bathroom design and fitting
  • Supply and installation of fixtures and equipment
  • Any associated shop or on-site work

2. References and Standards

Work will comply with:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015)
  • Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999
  • BS 6700: Design, Installation, and Maintenance of Services
  • Manufacturer instructions for all products and equipment used

3. Personnel and Responsibilities

  • Site Manager / Supervisor: Oversees work, ensures method statement is followed, manages risks.
  • Plumbers / Installers: Carry out work in accordance with this method statement and all safety procedures.
  • All Staff: Responsible for their own safety, use of PPE, and reporting hazards or incidents.

4. Equipment and Materials

  • Hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe cutters, etc.)
  • Power tools (drills, grinders – with PPE)
  • Plumbing materials (pipes, fittings, sealants)
  • Bathroom fixtures (sinks, toilets, showers, tiles)
  • PPE: gloves, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear

5. Risk Assessment and Control Measures

Potential Hazards:

  • Slips, trips, and falls
  • Manual handling injuries
  • Electrical hazards when working near live circuits
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, or sharp objects

Control Measures:

  • Use of PPE at all times
  • Site kept tidy; spillages cleaned promptly
  • Manual handling training and mechanical aids used
  • Isolate electrical circuits before work
  • Adequate ventilation when using adhesives or chemicals

6. Work Procedure / Methodology

  1. Preparation:
    • Review drawings and specifications
    • Confirm materials and tools are available
    • Carry out site inspection and identify hazards
  2. Execution:
    • Isolate water and/or electricity as required
    • Remove old fittings carefully, if applicable
    • Install plumbing and bathroom fixtures according to manufacturer guidelines
    • Connect and test water supply and drainage
    • Ensure all work is secure, level, and free of leaks
  3. Inspection and Testing:
    • Pressure test pipes and fittings
    • Check for leaks and functionality of all fixtures
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  4. Completion and Handover:
    • Clean site thoroughly
    • Provide client with operational instructions and safety advice
    • Sign-off completion documentation

7. Emergency Procedures

  • First aid kits available on site
  • Emergency contacts posted for ambulance, fire, and site supervisor
  • Procedure for stopping work immediately if hazards are identified

8. Environmental Considerations

  • Dispose of waste materials responsibly
  • Minimise water and energy use
  • Protect client property from damage
